Managing Director


Eric specializes in the international sustainability and corporate responsibility aspects of corporate reporting. He is one of the founding members of KPMG Global Sustainability Services™ and advises clients on performance measurement and reporting issues related to corporate social responsibility for international clients. He has spoken about corporate responsibility and sustainability at numerous academic and business conferences and was a member of the sustainability reporting joint task force of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Professional and Industry Experience

Eric Israel, formerly a partner of KPMG in the Netherlands, has transferred to KPMG US as a managing director with responsibilities for Corporate Responsibility and Governance services in New York. Prior to coming to the U.S., he was the audit partner within the sustainability services practice in the Netherlands. Eric was a member of the Advisory Group on Economic Indicators for the next generation of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Sustainability Reporting Guidelines that was launched in 2006. Eric qualified as a chartered accountant in 1981 for the Royal Institute of Chartered Accountants in the Netherlands. He is one of the first chartered environmental accountants in Europe and received his chartered environmental accountant’s license from the University of Amsterdam in 1999.

Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Services

Mr. Israel has extensive experience of providing Sustainability services for clients in North America and Europe. He is recently involved in implementing a “Green Initiative” for a large company and has extensive experience in sustainability and greenhouse gas reporting. He has specialized in corporate responsibility and governance and has worked with many global companies in their efforts to strengthen their corporate governance practices; evaluate the effectiveness of ethics and compliance programs; and measure and report externally on corporate responsibility performance indicators.

Mr. Israel has over twenty years of diversified experience in the management of engagements dealing with the examination of financial statements and with counseling organizations in non-financial performance reporting. He has specialized in corporate responsibility and governance and has worked with many global companies in their efforts to strengthen their corporate governance practices; evaluate the effectiveness of ethics and compliance programs; and measure and report externally on corporate responsibility performance indicators.

Mr. Israel also serves as the U.S. coordinator of the Internal Audit practice’s international sustainability services, which are delivered across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. He was responsible for the development of KPMG’s Non-Financial Assurance Methodology and, as a member of the Sustainability Reporting Task Force for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, he was a co-developer of the Statement of Position “Attest Engagements on Greenhouse Gas Emissions Information”.

Mr. Israel has helped clients satisfy a range of corporate governance, internal control, reporting and assurance frameworks, such as the: Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002; U.S. Sentencing Guidelines for Organizational Defendants; COSO Integrated Control Framework; PCAOB Audit Standard on Internal Control; Statement on Auditing Standards No. 99 (Consideration of Fraud in the Financial Statement Audit); and the Global Reporting Initiative.
