Alice Madden
State of Colorado
Governor’s Climate Change Coordinator

Alice Madden started her career in the high tech industry and then practiced law for 9 years before running for office. First elected in 2000, Alice served the four terms as Representative for House District 10 which consists of central Boulder, Gunbarrel and Niwot.
Recognized as the architect of the stunning victories for progressives in 2004 and in 2006, her tenure also included four years (2004 through 2008) as House Majority Leader. Democrats had not held majority in the House since the 1970’s, and Alice was the first Democratic woman to ever hold that position.
One of her main focuses during her time as Representative was expanding what is now referred to nationally as the New Energy Economy. Today, Alice continues to apply her experience, knowledge, and passion for energy and climate change issues as Governor Ritter’s Climate Change Advisor and is responsible for coordinating both public and private efforts to reach the green house gas reduction goals set forth in Colorado’s Climate Action Plan. Alice also served as a Senior Fellow on climate change issues at the Center for American Progress from January of 2008 to November of 2009.
Alice is a graduate of University of Colorado School of Law. She and her husband Pete are proud parents to two teenage boys who attend Boulder Public Schools and seem to play every sport known to mankind. Her entire family has a great love of the outdoors and they regularly take advantage of their beautiful surroundings and proximity to the Rocky Mountains. Her focus on climate change comes from her desire to preserve what makes the American West so special.
